Welcome to the Department of Geology and Geoinformatics, where scientific exploration meets innovation and interdisciplinary learning!
Department of Geology (Established in 1984)
Our Department of Geology has been a cornerstone of geological education since its establishment in 1984, offering students an immersive and comprehensive understanding of Earth sciences. We provide a dynamic and engaging academic environment, with geology courses available at the undergraduate level in six specialized combinations, designed to cater to diverse academic interests:
| Major Subject | Minor Subject |
|---|---|
| Geology | Chemistry |
| Geology | Physics |
| Chemistry | Geology |
| Physics | Geology |
| Computer Application | Geology |
| Data Analytics | Geology |
| Data Science and Data Analytics | Geology |
| IT | Geology |
With an exclusive intake capacity of 8 students per combination, we ensure personalized attention and exceptional academic growth. Our department also offers an innovative Certificate Course in Groundwater Exploration, an interdisciplinary program that highlights the field training based practical applications of geology in solving real-world problems related to water resources.
At the Department of Geology and Geoinformatics, we believe that the true essence of Earth sciences and spatial technology lies beyond the classroom, in the natural world itself. To ensure our students gain hands-on experience and a deep understanding of geological phenomena, we offer three field excursions each academic year—one of the most dynamic and enriching activities in our department!
These field excursions offer students unparalleled exposure to a variety of geological terrains. It's not just about theory—it's about experiencing geology first-hand, applying classroom knowledge in real-world settings, and understanding the intricate dynamics of the Earth's processes.
Our field excursions are an essential part of our department’s commitment to providing students with a comprehensive, well-rounded education. These experiences empower our students to connect theory with practice and prepare them to become experts in their respective fields.
The Department of Geology and Geoinformatics is dedicated to fostering academic excellence and innovative research. Our Research Laboratory, established in 2008 and recognized by SGBAU, supports up to five research students in exploring advanced geological studies. Additionally, we boast one of the best Geology Museums in the region, featuring an extensive collection of rocks, fossils, minerals, and models for hands-on learning.
We offer specialized counseling services and collaborations with prestigious institutes to prepare students for IIT-JAM, CUEPT, and Master’s entrance exams in Geology. We also provide resources and guidance on international opportunities in Geoscience.
Our commitment ensures that students are well-equipped to excel in their academic and professional careers.
Our Department of Geoinformatics is a cutting-edge addition, established in 2024, dedicated to providing a multidisciplinary approach to modern spatial data analysis. With an intake capacity of 20 students, this postgraduate program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed for science graduates from a variety of fields (B.E./B.Sc.).
Geoinformatics is revolutionizing industries ranging from environmental management to urban planning, and our program is designed to provide students with the technical skills and practical knowledge needed to thrive in this rapidly growing field. As an emerging discipline, our Geoinformatics program offers immense opportunities for research, innovation, and career advancement.
Join us in shaping the future of Earth sciences and spatial technology, where your journey to discovery begins!
