Department of Zoology



1. The Department of Zoology was established in 1958 along with the establishment of the college.

2. Zoology is offered at the Undergraduate (UG) level as Major and Minor subject combinations with Botany, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, and Microbiology as per NEP 2020.

3. The intake capacity of the department at the UG level is 120 students.

4. The Postgraduate (PG) program was introduced in the academic session 1991–1992 with an intake capacity of 15+2 seats for M.Sc.-I.

5. The research laboratory of the department was recognized in 1992 by Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University for conducting research leading to the award of Ph.D. degrees, with a sanctioned strength of 20 research seats.

6. The department has 06 recognized Ph.D. supervisors. Presently, 09 students are pursuing Ph.D. research under the guidance of 02 recognized research supervisors.

7. Since 2009, the department has been conducting Career Oriented Courses in Eco-tourism and Wildlife Photography at Certificate, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma levels. Value-added courses on Health Care and NWPS (Nature and Wildlife Specialist Program) are also offered.

8. A total of 07 faculty members are engaged in teaching UG classes, while 02 full-time contractual teachers are involved in PG academic activities.

9. The Department of Zoology has been awarded prestigious projects such as the DBT STAR Strengthening Component and DBT BUILDER Programme.

10. The department is equipped with separate and well-maintained UG, PG, and Research laboratories.

11. The department continuously strives for the curricular and co-curricular excellence of students through study tours, field visits, internships, on-job training, community engagement programs, startups, projects, and guidance for various collegiate and intercollegiate competitions.

12. Extension activities related to natural resource conservation, including Wildlife Week celebrations, avian fauna conservation, and awareness campaigns promoting eco-friendly festivals, are regularly organized under the Zoological Society and Eco-Club of the department.
