Department of geology in collaboration with department of environmental sciences organized Geological webinar series on “Application of Remote Sensing in Hydrogeology and Environmental Protection for Sustainable Society” dated 5/06/2020- 8/06/2020. 2252 online registrations were received and 589 candidates successfully attended webinar and received certificates for same.
One Day Seminar Competition was organized for B.Sc. III, II Geology students dated 27-28/02/2020

Objectives of the Practice
Students in filed work get to observe new rock, mineral & fossil samples thus geological field sample collection increases students personal interest in field work and subject.
By identifying field collected samples and classifying them by giving proper names it ensures the better understanding of subject as theoretical knowledge is connected to practical samples.
Field Sample Collection of students are enriching and fulfilling knowledge to other successive batches.
Field Sample collection could be tricky sometimes a naïve person may take random field samples and get sense of completion but Geological field sample are required to be fresh samples. Thus number of times taking out fresh samples is a difficult task as hard rock may not sometimes break as per the requirement and also keeping the structure should intact. Caring this samples is another issue as some of rocks are very heavy or very delicate to carry with because geological filed excursion includes extensive on foot travelling.
Geological Field Sample collection requires going to extensive field work this increases curiosity of student in the subject and field work as students are in hunt of various rocks and different structures. Thus a same place is viewed with different aspect by students connecting this with theory topics are stored in students long lasting memory. Field sample collection connects students with subject not just intellectually but also emotionally thus resulting in better results.
The constraints / limitations: - The constraints are going to virgin places, forested areas put restriction as most of the undisturbed rocks are present away from civilization.
Above all pie diagram indicates the consecutive increase in departmental results as compared to 1st year which gives best evidences that students interest in subject increases thus resulting in better results of students after Geological Filed Sample collection activity.
Geological Field Sample collection requires extensive on foot traveling many a times far away from civilization thus safety is always a major concern in activity. Hard sample breaking is difficult which number of times can lead to accidents if not properly samples are chiselled out.

online (Instagram Based) National level intercollegiate Geological field photography contest
Department organized online (Instagram Based) National level intercollegiate Geological field photography contest. Contest was specially organized for B.Sc. Geology students. Contest started 9/05/2020 and last date for entry was 16/05/2020. Winner results were declared dated 17/05/2020 on the basis of maximum likes received. 1st price went to Mr. M. Mohamed Mathiq from Alagappa Gov. arts College, Karaikudi, department of geology and 2nd price went to Ku. B. Hemasubriya from ADM college for women, Nagapattinam, department of geology.
