Department of Computer Science



                The Department of Computer Science (DoCS) is one of the earliest Computer Science departments established in the Vidarbha region. Founded in 1988, the department was created to address the demand for well-qualified computer professionals. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computer Science, focusing on both theoretical aspects and software/application development.

             The department first introduced a three-year undergraduate program with Computer Science as a major, alongside subjects like Statistics, Physics, and Mathematics. In 1995, recognizing the increasing demand for skilled software professionals, the department expanded its offerings by introducing a Vocational Computer Applications course at the degree level. This was followed by the launch of the M.Sc. in Computer Software in 2000, which quickly gained recognition for its innovative and industry-relevant curriculum.

            In 2007, the department further strengthened its academic portfolio by launching the Bachelor of Computer Applications (B.C.A.) program, alongside a specialized 10+2 Vocational Computer Science and IT curriculum. In response to evolving industry needs and the goals of NEP 2020, the department introduced new degree courses in Data Analytics, Information Technology, Web Designing, and Data Science in 2024, aimed at equipping students with the skills demanded by today’s fast-paced job market.

             Additionally, in the same year 2024 department launched a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Data Analysis to further enhance the expertise of professionals in the field. In recognition of its commitment to high-quality education, the Department of Computer Science is also an authorized resource center for the IIT Bombay Spoken Tutorial Training Program, providing valuable training resources to students and professionals alike.

             The department is a pioneer in Free Open Source Software (FOSS) culture and Cyber Security outreach programs. It serves nearly 1,000 students at the junior and senior college levels, supported by three state-of-the-art laboratories. The department features a dedicated hardware laboratory for assembly language programming, equipped with microprocessor trainer kits and interfacing devices. The faculty is highly qualified and committed to student development. The department provides separate laboratory facilities for undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with modern equipment and a well-connected local area network. The laboratories are equipped with high-speed fiber-optic broadband internet.

             The department boasts an excellent placement track record with major multinational IT companies, offering attractive salary packages. Notable recruiters include Wipro, TCS, L&T InfoTech, Cognizant Technologies, Infosys, TechMahindra, Syntel, ATOS, and Acute Informatics. It also provides internship opportunities for final-year students to work on projects. The department ensures that program objectives are consistently met and learning outcomes are assessed through periodic tests and assignments.
