Intracollegiate Chem Quiz Competition for B.Sc. I-2024

Under the DBT Catalyst Program, the Chemistry Department organized an intercollegiate quiz competition for BSC 1st year for session 2024–25. The aim of this organization is to impart the basic concept of chemistry and awareness of the subject among the students.
Aims and Objectives
• It serves as an opportunity for students' understanding of chemistry.
• To encourage students to pursue a degree and careers in chemistry.
• The quiz goes beyond standard syllabus curriculum content and is designed to be engaging and thought-provoking.
The first part of this quiz was the screening test. The test was scheduled for September 24, 2024, in rooms No. S2 and S1 from 11:10 p.m. to 2:10 p.m. The syllabus for the screening test is based on 11th and 12th chemistry. The screen test includes 50 MCQ questions with 1 mark each. The question booklet and OMR sheet were separately distributed to the students. The question is mainly based on the basic concept of chemistry and some general questions. 91 students participated in the screening test. The invigilators for the screening test were Dr. N. H. Bansod for Room No. S2 and Ms. R. D. Bankar for Room No. S1. All the OMR sheets were evaluated on the same day, and the result has been declared at 5.30pm on the WhatsApp app group.

Day: 2
The merit list of the top 30 students was flashed on the WhatsApp group. The first 12 students called for the oral chemistry quiz competition on September 26 at 3:30 p.m. In the AV Theater, the first 12 participants were divided into four teams: Electron, Proton, Neutron, and Positron.
Team electron leader, Mr. Paras Patil
Team Proton leader, Mr. Kranti R. Mahamune
Team neutron leader, Mr. Om G. Mohod
Team Positron leader Ms. Tanishqua B. Maske

The quiz master, R. D. Bankar, and Dr. N. H. Bansod, the scores, Mr. Pratik from the PG Department, and 60 students were present for the oral chemistry quiz competition. The quiz consists of three rounds. The first round was based on the multiple-choice question. The five questions were asked to each team. For a correct answer, the team will get 10 marks. If the team gave the wrong answer, the question was passed to the audience. For the correct answer, the audience got the gift as appreciation. The audience was also enjoying the MCQ round.
The second round was the buzzer round based on the audio-visual clips. The first clip was based on the basic fundamentals of chemistry, courtesy of National Geographic, and the second clip was based on the Bhopal gas tragedy. All questions are based on the video clip; there was negative marking for the wrong answer. Eight questions were asked for each video clip. Most of the questions were answered by the audience because of negative marking.
The third round was rapid fire. In this round, each team has a chance to give the maximum answer within 1 minute. If the team doesn’t know the answer, say pass and go for the next question. For every correct answer, the team got 10 marks. The team positron scored maximum marks in this round.
At the end of the three rounds, the positron team with 110 marks was declared the winner of this competition. At the concluding session, Dr. P. R. Mandlik motivated the students through the words of wisdom and vote of thanks delivered by Ms. R.D. Bankar. At the end, some photos clicked with participated teams, audience, HOD, and coordinators of the quiz.
