Introduction:
In the modern digital age, the generation and utilization of data have increased exponentially, making big data one of the most important domains in the field of computer science. Understanding how to manage, process, and analyse large datasets is essential for students aspiring to build careers in technology and data-driven industries. Recognizing this need, the Department of Computer Science organized a one-day workshop on “Big Data Application Development using MATLAB” for Batch-3 on 24th March 2026.
The workshop aimed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical exposure to big data concepts and tools. MATLAB, known for its powerful computational and visualization capabilities, was chosen as the primary tool for the workshop. The program was conducted in collaboration with iBase Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Amravati, ensuring that students received industry-oriented training.
A total of 103 students from BCA Second Year Section-B actively participated in the workshop. The event provided a platform for students to enhance their understanding of big data and to develop practical skills in MATLAB. The structured sessions, combined with hands-on activities, created an engaging and interactive learning environment. The workshop also helped bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, making it highly relevant for the participants.

Objectives
1. To introduce students to the concepts and significance of big data.
2. To provide knowledge about real-world applications of big data.
3. To familiarize students with the MATLAB environment and tools.
4. To develop skills in data analysis and visualization.
5. To provide hands-on experience in handling large datasets.
6. To encourage students to explore career opportunities in data analytics.

Working Agenda
Inaugural Session
The workshop commenced with an inaugural session at 11:00 AM in Sir C. V. Raman Hall. The session began with a warm welcome to the participants, followed by an introduction to the objectives and significance of the workshop. The coordinators highlighted the importance of big data in today’s technology-driven world and explained how tools like MATLAB can be effectively used for data analysis and application development. The inaugural function was graced by the presence of Principal Dr. G. V. Korpe, Head of the Department Dr. M. M. Bhonde, the Departmental DBT Star Project Coordinators, and the teaching staff of the Department of Computer Science. Their presence added great value and encouragement to the event. The invited resource persons, Mr. Nakul Deshmukh and Mr. Piyush Mishra from iBase Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Amravati were also present on the occasion and were formally felicitated as a token of appreciation for their contribution.
The inaugural session set the tone for the entire workshop by motivating students to actively participate and make the most of the learning opportunity. The speakers emphasized the importance of acquiring practical skills alongside theoretical knowledge. Students were encouraged to engage in discussions, ask questions, and explore new concepts throughout the sessions.

Session–1: Introduction to Big Data and Its Applications using MATLAB:
The first technical session focused on building a strong foundation in big data concepts. The resource persons introduced students to the definition and characteristics of big data, commonly referred to as the five Vs: Volume, Velocity, Variety, Veracity, and Value. Each of these aspects was explained in detail with relevant examples to ensure clarity of understanding.
Students were also introduced to various sources of big data, including social media platforms, online transactions, sensors, and enterprise systems. The session highlighted the challenges associated with managing and processing large volumes of data, such as storage, scalability, and data security. The resource persons discussed how big data technologies are used to overcome these challenges and enable efficient data processing.
In addition to theoretical concepts, the session introduced MATLAB as a powerful tool for big data analysis. The participants were familiarized with the MATLAB interface, basic commands, and features relevant to data handling. Demonstrations were provided to show how MATLAB can be used to import datasets, perform basic analysis, and generate visual representations. The session effectively combined theory with demonstrations, making it easier for students to grasp the concepts.

Session–2: Working with MATLAB:
The second session was highly interactive and focused on hands-on training. Students were guided through practical exercises using MATLAB, allowing them to apply the concepts learned in the previous session. The resource persons demonstrated how to work with datasets, including importing data from different sources, cleaning and preprocessing data, and performing statistical analysis.
Participants learned how to use MATLAB functions and scripts to automate data processing tasks. They were also introduced to data visualization techniques, such as creating graphs, charts, and plots to represent data effectively. The trainers ensured that each student could follow the steps and complete the exercises, providing individual assistance whenever required.
The session also included basic application development using MATLAB. Students were shown how to create simple programs that can analyse and interpret data. This practical exposure helped them understand the real-world applications of big data and the role of MATLAB in developing data-driven solutions. The interactive nature of the session kept students engaged and enhanced their confidence in using the software.
