Demonstration of Classical and Technology-Driven Experiments in Physics" Special activity on the occasion of NSD-2026
Date: 28 February 2026
Venue: Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh Memorial Science and Innovation Activities Centre, Rampuri Camp Road, Amravati
On the occasion of National Science Day, celebrated annually on 28 February to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect, the Department of Physics of Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati, in collaboration with the Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh Memorial Science and Innovation Activities Centre, organized a comprehensive academic program. The event featured the Sir C. V. Raman Memorial Lecture along with an interactive hands-on session titled “Experiments in Physics.” The celebration aimed to honor the legacy of Sir C. V. Raman while promoting scientific awareness, inquiry-based learning, and curiosity among students.
National Science Day is observed across India to highlight the importance of science in everyday life and to encourage scientific thinking among citizens, particularly students. In alignment with this vision, the program was designed to blend theoretical insights with practical demonstrations, ensuring a holistic learning experience.
Objectives of the Programme
The primary objectives of the program were:
To commemorate National Science Day by remembering the remarkable contribution of Sir C. V. Raman to science.
To promote scientific temperament and research awareness among school and college students.
To encourage experiential learning through live demonstrations of fundamental and advanced physics concepts.
To create curiosity and conceptual clarity in areas such as modern physics, nuclear physics, mechanics, and spectroscopy.
To inspire young learners through the achievements and journeys of Indian physicists.
To bridge the gap between classroom teaching and practical scientific understanding.
Sir C. V. Raman Memorial Lecture
The memorial lecture began at 11:00 AM and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and science enthusiasts from various institutions in and around Amravati. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. S. S. Arsad, Associate Professor in Physics at Shri Shivaji Science College. His lecture, titled “Contribution to Physics by Indian Physicists,” provided an insightful overview of the significant achievements of Indian scientists in the field of physics. He elaborated on the discovery of the Raman Effect, explaining its fundamental principles and its far-reaching applications in modern spectroscopy, material science, and chemical analysis.
Dr. Arsad emphasized the importance of cultivating a scientific mindset and fostering a research-oriented approach among students. He highlighted how Indian scientists, despite facing resource constraints, have made remarkable contributions to global scientific progress. By sharing inspiring stories of perseverance and innovation, he motivated students to pursue careers in science and research. The lecture successfully connected historical scientific achievements with present-day advancements, making it both informative and inspiring. The audience appreciated the clarity of presentation and the relevance of the topic to contemporary scientific developments.
“Interactive Programme: “Experiments in Physics”
In parallel with the lecture, an interactive hands-on session titled “Experiments in Physics” was conducted to provide students with a practical understanding of scientific concepts. This session focused on demonstrating principles from modern physics, nuclear physics, mechanics, and spectroscopy through live experiments.
Students of Classes VIII and IX from Holy Cross English High School actively participated in this session. They were accompanied by Nabila Madam, other teaching staff, and the Principal, Sister Pushpa. The presence of school students added vibrancy and enthusiasm to the program.
The demonstrations were carefully designed to simplify complex concepts and make learning engaging. Students were encouraged to observe, ask questions, and even participate in certain experiments. Their curiosity was evident through their active involvement and thoughtful queries. Principal Sister Pushpa’s encouraging presence played a significant role in creating a positive and interactive learning environment. The session not only enhanced students’ understanding but also sparked their interest in exploring scientific phenomena beyond textbooks.
The entire program was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Pankaj Nagpure, Director of the Centre, whose leadership ensured smooth planning and execution. Mr. Charudatta Gawande, Manager of the Centre, was also present and expressed his satisfaction with the successful organization of the event.
