Workshop Agenda
Inaugural Session
The outreach activity organized by the Department of Computer Science on the topic “Workshop on Cyber Awareness & Safety Measures while Using Digital Gadgets” commenced with a formal Inaugural Session held on 8th March, 2025 and 15th March, 2025 across six different schools in Amravati city. The initiative, catalysed under the DBT Star College Project, aimed to empower school and college teachers with essential knowledge and practical skills to ensure safe and responsible use of digital technology.
The inaugural sessions at each school marked the beginning of the workshop series and were graced by the Headmasters/Principals of the respective schools, who extended a warm welcome to the organizing team, faculty members, and participating teachers. Their presence underscored the importance of cyber awareness in today’s educational landscape and their commitment to creating a secure digital environment for both teachers and students.
The sessions began with a brief introduction to the objectives and structure of the workshop by representatives from the Department of Computer Science. They emphasized the increasing relevance of cybersecurity in day-to-day teaching activities and highlighted the Department’s vision to build a cyber-aware academic community through such outreach programs.
In their addresses, the Headmasters and teacher representatives expressed their appreciation for the initiative and encouraged teachers to actively engage with the sessions, ask questions, and implement the safety measures discussed during the workshop. They acknowledged the critical role of educators in promoting safe digital practices among students and welcomed the collaboration with the Department under the DBT Star College Scheme.
The inaugural moments set a positive and enthusiastic tone for the rest of the workshop, encouraging meaningful participation and open dialogue throughout the event.
Key Sessions Conducted
Session 1: Introduction to Cyber Awareness & Safety Measures
This session served as a foundation for the workshop. It introduced participants to the world of cyber threats and the importance of maintaining digital hygiene in their personal and professional lives. The session began with a discussion on the growing dependence on digital gadgets, including smartphones, laptops, tablets, and internet-connected educational tools.
Participants were made aware of various forms of cyber threats such as phishing, ransomware, data theft, identity fraud, and unauthorized access. Real-life case studies were shared to help teachers relate to actual incidents involving data leaks or privacy violations in the education sector. The session also highlighted the importance of being alert while using social media, emails, cloud platforms, and e-learning portals. Terminologies like strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, and safe browsing habits were introduced, along with their relevance to day-to-day teaching tasks. Teachers were encouraged to adopt a proactive role in building cyber-safe environments at schools.
Session 2: Hands-on Training on Safety Measures While Using Digital Gadgets
The second session was practical in nature and aimed at reinforcing the concepts introduced earlier through real-time demonstrations and guided activities. Teachers participated in a step-by-step tutorial on how to set up secure passwords and identify phishing emails. They were shown how to recognize fake links, suspicious downloads, and unauthorized applications on their devices.
Demonstrations included the setup of two-factor authentication on common platforms (such as Gmail), updating privacy settings on social media, and using antivirus software. Teachers were taught how to back up their data securely and avoid the use of unsafe public Wi-Fi networks. Interactive exercises allowed participants to evaluate the security of their own mobile phones and laptops.
This session received great feedback as it empowered teachers with immediately applicable skills, boosting their confidence in using digital devices safely in both classroom and administrative settings.
Feedback and Evaluation
To assess the effectiveness of the workshop, Google Form-based feedback was circulated among all participants at the end of the sessions. The feedback form gathered insights on session relevance, presentation clarity, interactivity, and overall usefulness. Highlights from the feedback include:
95% of participants rated the session as highly relevant to their professional needs.
92% expressed increased confidence in dealing with online threats.
88% requested follow-up sessions or a certificate course on digital safety.
Participants appreciated the real-life examples and hands-on demonstrations, stating that such formats made the technical content easier to grasp.
Qualitative responses also revealed that many participants had previously been unaware of key cybersecurity concepts, and the workshop significantly changed their approach toward technology use.
Summary
A total of 78 teachers across six schools attended the workshops, demonstrating great interest and enthusiasm throughout the sessions. The sessions were conducted smoothly with the cooperation of the school management and the dedication of the department's faculty. Each session lasted approximately 90 minutes and included a combination of presentations, discussions, and activities. Participants showed keen involvement and shared their own experiences related to digital tools and concerns. The initiative served as a bridge between academic expertise and community engagement, fulfilling the spirit of educational outreach.
The constant motivation of honourable Principal of our college Dr. G. V. Korpe helped us to reach out and delivered the skilled knowledge to the most needed beneficiaries i.e. school teachers outside the campus.
To make this workshop successful initiative is taken by Dr. M. M. Bhonde, Head, Department of Computer Science. Workshop is coordinated by departmental DBT Star Project Coordinators Dr. U. S. Junghare and Mr. Y. V. Hushare. For all arrangement of workshop at respective schools PG students worked as volunteers
All the teaching and non-teaching staff from the department of Computer Science are involved for the successful organization of the workshop.
Conclusion
The outreach activity served as a vital step in building cyber-aware academic environments at the grassroots level. The Department of Computer Science successfully reached 78 teachers with meaningful and practical knowledge of cyber safety. The workshops not only raised awareness but also instilled responsibility and preparedness among educators. This initiative reflects the department’s commitment to community development and responsible digital citizenship.
Plans are underway to extend similar workshops to students and parents in the future, ensuring a holistic approach to digital literacy in education.
